A climb and a fall....

So, it had to happen eventually. We all knew it was simply a matter of when. You see, the missus has this unnatural ability to get bumps and scrapes no matter where she is when she travels. Every trip has some story or other of the missus, getting ill, being bitten by snakes, falling and bouncing around and so on. Well, today it happened. Here’s a picture of her injury…..

You see, today we decided to go for a bit of a hike. Enough sitting around by the pool letting our days float by in this Paradise Alike (the moniker the resort gives itself), we were out to explore!

We were informed before we got here that there are some awesome waterfalls on the island, so we decided that we would head off to see on or two of them. The discovery made is that this island is bloody hilly and the roads are not in good shape at all. We thought the hotel might offer to give us a ride there, but luxury or not, we were shit out of luck (the language barrier may have been a significant factor).

So, off we trek with some rudimentary directions on how to reach the closest waterfall, into the hills…..damn, it was hot and sweaty. Good exercise, I suppose, but the entire way there was an uphill struggle with vehicles skewing all around us on the loamy mud tracks that pass as the road here.

Turns out the directions were fairly good, just not very well communicated. We trek uphill non-stop for 30-40 minutes before we determine that there is simply no way that the waterfall could have been this far away. So we backtrack. Eventually we find the waterfall….it is actually only about 10 minutes away from the resort grounds. Great….by this time I am a sweat-sodden mess and just as we are approaching the road down to the waterfall, the missus’ feet slip out from under her. In one of her usual slow-mo catastrophic falls, she lands on her bum, but not before skinning her knee and a couple of her toes….

We soldier on, dammit, by this time we are determined to see this damn waterfall….with the missus gritting her teeth against the searing pain and me wiping rivers of sweat from my eyes, we finally reach the objective….oh how sweet the success…oh glorious waterfall:

Ok, not so much, but fuck it, we made it!

Last day in paradise, so we bum around on the beach for the rest of the afternoon and hang out by the pool. Hey, we deserved the rest….it was a tough morning!!

Hmmmm, what else did we get up to today? Reading, studying PADI materials, eating, drinking and getting tipsy during happy hour, lying on our patio……hmmmmm yeah, that’s about it.

Tomorrow we’re heading back to the Tao…..let’s hope the missus is good for the return leg…….
